| | | | Dealing with colors and their perception
I was looking for an idiot's guide to colors so I asked a media designer and she recommended Color Index. My main problem is to understand, how and why certain color combinations create a special effect, seem to be professional or serious like saturated blue hues, precious or noble or modern. This book doesn't go much into detail with color theory, as a Color Index "reader" you should have some basic knowledge. But on such a foundation of common knowledge this book creates a solid building and you get used to all the rooms it contains.
Palettes are grouped by terms like "Inspired from Fashion" or "Earth and Sky" and split into two, three or four matching colors (as CMYK and RGB, only the "Websafe" ones with Hex-values). The second part contains some logo palettes (like black+another color).
The box is the best choice instead of buying both books separately. My box was a bit hard to open but it's even harder to read the books inside the box, so I decided to not put them back again but keep'em in arm's range.
| | Cool guid through the jungle of colors
This is a very useful product to get into the fascinating world of combining colors and atmospheres in publications.
It will always have a very special place in my shelf near the computer. It is easy to use, an artwork and helps to avoid fuzzy combinations of colors.
